How do I stop emails or cancel my subscription?

You can unsubscribe in as few as two clicks.

Email preferences and paid subscriptions are managed separately. Stopping emails does not cancel your paid subscription. Cancelling your paid subscription does not automatically stop free emails.

To change or stop emails

Sign in with the email address associated with your subscription, then visit your notification settings. Turn individual newsletters on or off to choose what you receive.

You can also use the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of an email to manage your email preferences. On the preferences page, there is a “turn off all emails” button. Clicking the one provided by your email service provider will only stop that specific newsletter.

To cancel a paid subscription purchased on our website

Visit your account page, using the email address associated with your paid membership. Find the cancellation option under Account actions and follow the prompts until cancellation is confirmed. Substack’s cancellation guide provides detailed instructions.

Cancelling stops your next renewal. You’ll keep your paid benefits until the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for, then become a free subscriber. If you also want to stop free emails, unsubscribe from those separately.

Please note: Selecting “end your subscription immediately” ends paid access right away and does not automatically issue a refund. If you’re requesting a refund, contact us at members@thebulwark.com so we can help.

To pause a website subscription

Follow the cancellation steps above, then choose Pause Subscription and select an available duration.

During the pause, you won’t be charged or have access to paid content and chats. Your remaining paid time is preserved and restored when the pause ends. Your subscription resumes automatically on the date shown. You can resume early from the same account page.

Subscriptions purchased through the Substack iPhone or iPad app cannot be paused.

Refunds & Billing Issues: Refunds take 3-5 days. If you selected the wrong tier and were overcharged, downgrade your subscription on your account page to be refunded the difference. If you were double charged, find out which email addresses are signed up, the last 4 digits of any cards charged, billing ZIP code and email us.

Refunds and billing issues

Email members@thebulwark.com if you accidentally selected the wrong membership tier, believe you were charged twice, or need help with a refund request.

For duplicate charges, please include any email addresses you may have used to subscribe, the dates and amounts charged, the last four digits of the card or cards charged, and the billing ZIP code. Please do not send your full card number.

Once a refund is issued, it may take several business days to appear on your statement, depending on your bank. Cancelling or downgrading a subscription does not automatically issue a refund.

To cancel a subscription purchased through Apple

This applies to both Apple Podcasts subscriptions and Bulwark subscriptions purchased inside the Substack iPhone or iPad app.

On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings → your name → Subscriptions, select the subscription, and tap Cancel Subscription. On a Mac, manage subscriptions through your Apple Account settings in the App Store.

Unfollowing a podcast or deleting an app does not cancel a paid subscription. Apple manages billing and refund requests for subscriptions purchased through Apple. See Apple’s cancellation instructions.

To cancel a YouTube membership

Visit YouTube’s Purchases and memberships page, sign in with the Google account you used to join, select your Bulwark membership, and follow the cancellation prompts.

In the YouTube app, tap You → Purchases and memberships, then select the membership to manage it. If your membership is billed through Apple, cancel it through your Apple subscriptions instead.

YouTube memberships are separate from Bulwark+ subscriptions purchased on our website. Billing and refund requests must go through the provider that charged you.
